Buyer's guide
Choosing Chaga.
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a fungus that grows on birch trees in cold northern forests. It looks like a lump of burnt charcoal on the bark, with a rust-orange inside. It has been brewed as a tea in Russia, Finland and the Baltic countries for centuries. Ours is a tincture, extracted in Poland and tested by an independent lab. Orders before 2pm leave Ireland the same day.
What's in our Chaga drops
Chaga, extracted with ultrasonic-assisted dual extraction in purified water and food-grade alcohol (under 22%).
1,500 mg of extract (dry weight) in each 30 ml bottle.
Vegan, with nothing else added.
Lab tested by J.S. Hamilton Poland for heavy metals and microbes. The full report is on the Chaga drops page.
How to take Chaga drops
The label says 1 to 2 ml every other day, and no more than 2 ml (60 drops) in a day. A full dropper holds about 0.6 ml (20 drops), so 1 ml is about a dropper and a half. Hold it under your tongue for about two minutes, or stir it into tea or warm water. At 1 ml every other day, a bottle lasts about two months.
How to choose Chaga in Ireland
What part is it? Real chaga is the dark growth on the birch tree itself. Some products are mycelium grown on grain in a lab instead; the label should say which.
Powder or extract? Chaga is very hard and woody, so most of what's useful is locked in. Hot-water or dual extracts pull it out; raw ground chaga is mostly for brewing as tea.
Can you see the lab report? Chaga grows wild on trees, so testing for heavy metals matters. Ours is on the product page.
Chaga questions
Where can I buy chaga in Ireland?
Here. Our Chaga drops are sent from Ireland, with next-day delivery on orders placed before 2pm.
Why every other day?
That's what our label says. Chaga is naturally high in oxalates, which is one reason it's taken less often than other mushrooms.
Who shouldn't take chaga?
Don't take it if you take blood thinners or diabetes medication, if you're due to have surgery, or if you have a kidney, bone or autoimmune condition. Not suitable for children, or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If in doubt, ask your GP or pharmacist.
Can I take chaga with other mushrooms?
There's no known interaction with Lion's Mane or Reishi. Follow each label.
Can I make chaga tea?
Yes, from chunks or ground chaga: simmer gently for an hour or more, strain, and drink. It tastes earthy and slightly vanilla-like. Or add our drops to any hot tea.
Food supplements shouldn't replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
