HOW MANY DROPS OF LION'S MANE A DAY?
Lion's Mane drops: how many a day?
In short: Our Remembrol label says 1 ml a day, which is about 30 drops (one and a half droppers). Don’t take more than 2 ml (60 drops) a day. Hold it under your tongue for about 90 seconds, or stir it into tea or coffee. A 30 ml bottle lasts 30 days at 1 ml a day. The calculator below works out ml, drops and bottle length for your routine.
Work out your drops
Based on the label: 2,000 mg of extract per 30 ml bottle (dry weight); about 30 drops in 1 ml; a full dropper holds about 0.6 ml. Don't take more than 2 ml a day.
How much to take
Take 1 ml once a day. That’s about 30 drops. Don’t take more than 2 ml (60 drops) in a day.
You can take it two ways:
- Under your tongue. Hold the drops there for about 90 seconds, then swallow.
- In a drink. Stir it into your morning tea or coffee instead.
These are the directions on the Remembrol label.
Drops, droppers and millilitres
The dropper in the bottle doesn’t fill to exactly 1 ml. When you squeeze the bulb and let go, it fills to about 0.6 ml, which is about 20 drops.
| You take | That’s about | Of the label’s daily amount |
|---|---|---|
| 10 drops | 0.3 ml | a third |
| 20 drops (1 full dropper) | 0.6 ml | just over half |
| 30 drops (1½ droppers) | 1 ml | the daily amount |
| 40 drops (2 full droppers) | 1.3 ml | above the daily amount, below the maximum |
| 60 drops (3 full droppers) | 2 ml | the most you should take in a day |
If counting drops is fiddly, use one full dropper plus half a dropper.
What’s in 1 ml
Each 30 ml bottle contains 2,000 mg of Lion’s Mane extract (dry weight), made from the fruiting body with purified water and food-grade alcohol. So 1 ml contains about 67 mg of extract, a full dropper about 40 mg, and the 2 ml maximum about 133 mg. At 1 ml a day a bottle lasts 30 days; at 2 ml, 15.
What amounts have studies used?
There’s no official daily amount for Lion’s Mane. These are the human studies we’ve checked ourselves:
| Study | Who took part | How much a day | What form | How long |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mori and others, 2009 | 30 adults aged 50 to 80 in Japan | about 3 g | tablets of dried Lion’s Mane powder | 16 weeks |
| Nagano and others, 2010 | 30 women in Japan | 2 g | dried fruiting body baked into cookies | 4 weeks |
| Docherty and others, 2023 | 41 adults aged 18 to 45 in the UK | 1.8 g | capsules of a Lion’s Mane product | 4 weeks |
These amounts can’t be compared drop for drop with a tincture. The studies used whole dried mushroom, measured in grams. A tincture is an extract: the mushroom is soaked in water and alcohol and the liquid is kept, so “mg of extract” and “g of dried mushroom” aren’t the same thing. They were small studies that tested Lion’s Mane, not our drops.
